i finally got a plan of action from my Doctor… 4 weeks of  colchicine twice a day … then 4 weeks of colchicine and allopurinol(300 mgs) … then stop colchicine and continue on allopurinol for the rest of my life….

started colchicine and i've finally gotten some relief after 3 -4 months of pain… he also said i could just use the colchicine  without allopurinol but said i would probably get an attack after a few months ….

does this sound like a plan?

ps…he agreed with most of you that Uloric is a new drug and would prescribe if allopurinol did not work

I also had similar plan..2 weeks of Colchicine..then Allopurinol with Colchcine….then withdraw Colchicine….it seem to work for me….I am on Allopurinol for 4 months now with SUA levels of 4….I took Colchcine all these 4 months…1 tab a day for first 2 months, then 1 tab evey other day for 6 weeks and then 1 tab every 3 days….now almost on verge of stopping it if things remain good another week…

I hope, it will work for you as well….

    John,

Your plan will work eventually  but I think it's a shame to lose a whole month without any uric acid control.

I hope the 2 colchicine a day are sufficent to end your pain but it IS a small dose.

It sounds like almost a very good plan.

Make it perfect by returning for uric acid tests to check the allopurinol dose. It takes up to 2 weeks after starting or changing the allopurinol dose for uric acid levels to stabilize (though most of the effect takes place in 2 or 3 days)
