Gout for the first time

Hi friends

I got pain in my right side foot ankle and swelling 15 days earlier. My doctor got checked my uric acid and it was 10.3 where as normal range was upto 7.

My doctor suggested me to take Zyloric Tablet 300 mg once daily and Caflam tab in case of pain

I started getting the medicine. Now it is 13 days gone I am taking Zyloric. 80% of swelling has gone but the pain is still there.

I want to ask how many days it can take to healup and do I need some other med

1. Normally is not a good idea to start on Allopurinol during an attack (Zyloric), this may worsten or take more time to resolve.

2. Diclofenec (Caflam) is good for pain and swelling, a little strong for the stomach.

3. You are missing maybe the best medicine Colchicine.

These points are from my point of view and you should follow your doctor indications.

In my case I have had
attacks that lasted from 3 days up to 3 months (acute pain). After the acute
phase normally it takes up to two weeks to be free of pain and swelling.

This is true, but as Rizwan has already started, then it would be wrong to stop.

Rizwan, it is now time for you to get retested to see if your uric aid level has dropped enough. You might need to get your dose increased to achieve a level of 3 to 4 mg/dL.

Whilst you are getting tested, please point out to your doc, that 7 is not normal – it's just a lab average for all tests, which includes gout sufferers. Maximum is 6.5, but best to stay at 6 to give a safety margin. I suggest aiming for 3 to 4 for a few months, as this will get rid of old uric acid deposits faster.
