When you suffer with more than one symptom, I always think that they may be related. I suffer with a problem called gastroparesis, which in a nutshell is paralysis of the stomach. Food rwill remain in my stomach for up to 6 hours before it gradually moves on and there are certain types of food I cannot eat without regurgitating. This problem, which I have had for 10 years, gives me exceedingly high acid levels in my stomach.

2 years ago I started with tremendous pain in my lower back which developed into severe sciatica. Recently I had an MRI and I have swollen discs beween L3, L4, L5 and S1 but the vertabrae are not squashing together, just the cartilidge that is impinging on the canal carrying the sciatic nerve.

    ?

Just recently I have had terrible pain in the middle toe of my right foot that comes on at night and lasts for a good 48 hours and makes it exceedingly difficult to walk.

    ?

I am now wondering if my toe problem is GOUT and is there the possibility that the flareup in my lower spine is also gout related.

    Esprit,

    ?

A bad back, which I also have, may or may not be gout related, which I also have.

    ?

Ignore the back for the time being and ASSUME your toe is gout related and test your uric acid. If it is high it is more likely the toe is? gout and less likely it is sciatica.

    ?

    You CAN have both.
