“If you forgot to take the medication and it is not near the time of the next dose, take the missed dose immediately.”

The above is the standard recommendation but………

I take AlloP 300mg every morning (7am) like clockwork. This morning I am not sure if I took it or not Smile I took the packet out of the drawer and got distracted so now I am not sure if I actually took it or forgot. It's only 8 am and I am not sure what to do. So between ending up with a mega 600mg dose or 0mg dose which should I choose? Laugh

I normally write the date on the back of pack each time I take a tablet but I opened a new pack recently and slacked off. Damn I am gettign old!

Veggy- If you think it's tricky, wait till you're taking 5 or 6 meds daily-and are 20 yrs older. Then you will get some cocktails with fudged doses…

Now's your chance for research– take your normal dose later in the day so the bulked dose will be laid off, if already taken- and ,if not ,you still get one in. If you feel any effects to the bad, then take the next dose [tm] later in the day- also and then trim times back to normal. [This way you get an absolute max of~450mg]

    Age 'n experience… 🙂

PS: As you're established on the AP anyway, it would only cause a blip in your regime either way,  so long as you haven't any 'lurking' side effects.

PS: I omitted to mention you can get those dose savers that compartmentalise your doses by days of the week.

[From my exp- the critical meds usually have daily bubble pack markers]

I don't like taking pills on an empty stomach so I wait until breakfast a couple hours after arising. Sometimes breakfast doesn't happen and sometime around dinner time it's “Did I take my allopurinol and my Lasix today at lunch????”

I hope I get better than a 50-50 right guess.

The good thing is that oxypurinol, the first metabolite which is also very effective, has a very long half life and the occasional missed pill or double dose doesn't have much of an effect either way.

I guess if the doubt occurs too often one could take a HALF pill.Wink
