Thank you for the wonderful website.? It is really hard to desipher information on the web?with all the snake-oil sales sites.? I have found more information here in one visit than the weeks of searching other sites.
I am 57 have had gout for about 10 years. 1 to 2 episodes a year treated with indocin within a day or two. Most were in right big toe ( interestingly I got it caught in bike spokes when I was three have a large scar). Although I have had other joint pain I didn’t really relate to Gout.
I am Overweight at 6.2 ft and 270 pounds (35 bmi). I had a kidney removed 35 years ago (cancer) remaining one works well. This year I had several attacks in the toe, with aching joints throughout my body. A ?month ago had one that lasted two weeks unresponsive to indocin so I went to the doctor and did some test. They put me on prednisone which worked quickly. They removed some crystals from the joint to confirm Gout. After the course of prednisone they had me start a 100 mg of Allopurinol. I also spoke with my Urologist to confirm Allopurinol was ok?considering the one kidney and she felt strongly that I should be on it and that I could increase the amount to 200 or 300 mg overtime. Four days in I started a new episode so my GP gave me more prednisone and told me to stop the allopurinol. I see from your post this is not the right direction.
Diet was not great but getting much better -I don’t drink more than a handful of drinks a year, don’t eat a lot or meat (have it once or twice a month or so) other than skinless chicken breast. I try to stay away from the high purine foods including vegetables. Not a milk fan. Working on diet and losing slowly as recommended and I drink a gallon of water a day. .5 days ago I starting having?a cup of flax granola each morning for breakfast and dropping weight too fast.? I?will have blood work done in a month to see how it is going.? Would like to see if the flax is having much of an impact? so I am conflicted about starting Allopurinol again until I do.?

I am in the middle of the second 15 day course of prednisone and still having minor joint pain mostly big toe and ankle but not full on gout episode.

GP had me do a 24 hour urine collection U Uric random was at 19mg/dl, Uric Acid 24 H 576mg/tv, volume Uric Acid 3032 ml.? Not sure what that means but doctor says kidney is working to remove Uric Acid so it must be my diet. I will be asking for a referral to a rhumitoidologist.

From reading some of the blog history, I assume I need to be on the highest dose of allopurinol I can and possibly some sort of anti-inflammatory at least in the beginning.? ?

Thank you again, any advice would be great.
