ALLPO is not a sometime drug you have to stay on it for the rest of your life. Colchine can be used as a low dose maintenance drug or at a higher dose for a short period to knock out a flare up of gout. The best thing is you found your way to this site. Theres a ton of info on here you just have to look or ask. GOOD LUCK. LIMPYJuly 4, 2010 at 2:29 pm #9156
thank limpy for the information , i will take ur advice, as u said allop should be used fo span of life , because i tried to cut off dosage but it didnt work ua was above normal , even low purine diet is not enough to decrease ua
thanks a lotJuly 6, 2010 at 12:08 pm #9167zip2playParticipant
The basic of the basics is that you need to take a drug, usually allopurinol, usually 300 mg. that will keep your FREQUENTLY MEASURED serum uric acid below 6.0 mg./dL, preferably lower to start.
That will eventually keep you from having attacks.
Once you start allopurinol DO NOT STOP.July 7, 2010 at 3:46 pm #9183
i have gone to doctor befor days and evantually the doctor have a gout also , so he told me he had a gout for 25 yrs , he advise me to take one tablet 300 mg allop daily and dont stop taking allop . and he perscripe a painkiller drug called ( xefo ) as he said that dont has any effect on renal function.

Assalamu alaykum (spelling?). Watch your diet, too. I used to eat a lot of lentil soup from my local Lebanese restaurant (I'm a vegetarian) and the purine levels in the lentil soup cause myt gout to flare up. I now watch my diet and weight, take Allopurinol (100mg once per day) and I take Aleve (naproxen) for pain. I also drink lemonade with tart cherry juice added every day and that seems to help. I wish you the best!September 5, 2010 at 4:58 am #9820odoParticipant

I had the same problem with falafelSeptember 6, 2010 at 5:22 pm #9864azasadnyParticipant
Yep, i have had tyo reduce the amount of falafel I eat. Falafel is made from chickpeas and tahini… I don't know if they are rich in purine, but I have to be careful about how much middle eastern food I eat.
