1st attack 3 months ago and a bad one .i am still off work.doing the allopurinoll and still having flareups but less severe.last ua 5.3.im having some anxiety being the only bread winner.and i just dont know if i will be able to function on a consistent level when i go back to work, hopefully after i ride out the allopurinoll and get my ua down.minor to moderate flareups are every few days it seems.i work long hours using heavy tools, climbing ladders, wearing heavy boots and on my feet alot and like alot of jobs can be very stressfull.im hoping some members have have returned to physical jobs and have done ok.i have cleaned up my lifestyle with diet and zero alchohol.im especially concerned because some members have reported flareups with vigorous exercise.i would really like to hear your stories.what i would not do for a desk job right now.thanks.

hello mate, all that i can say is that my work consists of pyhsical exercise (i'm a machine mechanic) so i do a lot of hammering, cutting, dismantling, adjusting etc… and recently by accident i hammered my hand which (apparently) was responsible for causing GOUT in my right elbow the following day. I've always been fit, the correct weight for my height and no one in my family history has ever had GOUT but i've always drank alot of alcohol (especially beer & wine).

I've cut out drinking beer and only have a few glasses of wine during the week, take care of what i eat (low purine foods) and drink plenty of water…………….and my elbow has gone back to it's normal size barr a larger elbow joint (more pointy) and i have lesss pain. 80% better but not cured.

    ?

In your case i reckon stress is a big contributing factor.

    ?

    All the best,
