I'm going to be really, really busy the coming couple of months and doubt I will have many opportunities to post on gout-pal let alone update my blog.   I just wanted to wish everyone good luck in dealing with and controlling their gout.  This place has been instrumental in getting me back on my feet – thank you for that!

It is a bit early to be totally sure, but I may have finally turned the corner with my gout.  Although I've only been free from attacks for a little over half a month now, my body feels different – in a good way.  For the past week and a half, I've been able to exercise with little joint pain at all.  My fingers, hands and wrists are actually well enough right now that I've been able to do pushups, something I haven't done for well over a year.  In fact, almost all of my joints feel 'clean', and I'm not getting any of the twinges or pains that I normally would get when not undergoing an acute attack.  I still do have some pain in my knees, ankles and feet, but I attribute this more to joint damage due to suffering from severe gout for the last 15 years.  It took a bit longer than I had been told, but after 8 months of 600mg/day of Allopurinol, I just feel better, and as I said, my joints feel clean.  I don't really know how to describe it, but it's a nice feeling.

Because of my history with gout, however, I still have a real fear of another attack coming on.  It just seems to good to be true right now. I hope not.  My SUA levels are still very low (4.0), I'm still following a strict diet (have included a little meat now) and am abstaining from any and all alcohol (probably for life).  With all of the travel I have coming up, I really, really hope I can remain in a healthful state!

I'll try to check in here when I can.  Best of luck to everyone and I hope you all have a great summer!

    Nate,

Do you think you'll stick with the 600 mg. dose for the foreseeable future?

Zip – discussed this with my doc yesterday.  With all the traveling I'll be doing, he thought it would be best to stay on that doseage for now.  We'll likely knock it down to 300 or 400 mg in a couple of months.  I'm not seeing any side effects from taking the 600mg at least.  Kidney function is good and all other tests checked out.  The 600mg has definitely done a great job in getting my SUA readings down.  3.9 last month and 4.0 this month.

    Good idea with the 600mg.

    Enjoy your gout-free travels.
